Week 52 Bonanza: Special End-of-Year Reflections & Updates!
Share
Hi Everyone,
I hope you're all enjoying the New Year! Huge thanks to everyone on our mailing list—there are now over 35 of you! I couldn’t be more grateful for this tight-knit community. Your support means the world, and I’m thrilled to continue sharing my reflections with you all.
Monday 23rd December
A slight mishap with my shift—booked it in SOUTHAMPTON instead of Twyford Surgery, but it wasn’t a total loss. Pharmacy was busy, and it was a reminder of the challenges in locum work, especially dealing with some less experienced dispensers.
Tuesday 24th December
My first day at Twyford Surgery in an admin support role. I’m loving it—coding specialist letters into EMIS profiles and getting insights into gastroenterology through endoscopy reports. It’s really helping with my revision.
Wednesday 25th December
A memorable Christmas Day spent at King’s College Hospital for an emergency laparotomy. It was intense but rewarding, and I had the opportunity to meet Mr. S. Ramar, who invited me back on Saturday 28th for a robotic gastric bypass. I’m looking forward to that!
Thursday 26th December
A well-needed rest day after a busy week. Sometimes, it’s good to recharge before diving back into work and study.
Friday 27th December
Back at Twyford Surgery, enjoying coding specialist letters. I even worked through an orthopaedic referral, adding detailed diagnoses and flags for medication review.
Saturday 28th Bonanza: The Bullet Wound!
The highlight of the week was a clay pigeon shooting accident. I got to scrub in and help debride a massive wound, removing shotgun pellets and the shotgun shell itself. Even after we thought we were done, an X-ray showed we missed some pellets, so the wound was packed for Plastics. An unforgettable experience!
2025 Mini-Podcast Series Proposal
Next year, I’m kicking off a mini-podcast series with consultants, senior medical students, and colleagues. I’ll dive into their experiences, clinical practices, and even their hobbies. Let me know if you want to hear more, and I’ll give you two weeks’ notice to send in questions.
