Week 49 and 50 | Special Edition

Monday: A deep dive into gynae history-taking with Impey’s Obstetrics and Gynaecology. It’s fascinating how structured history-taking can reveal so much, and revisiting the basics felt grounding and essential.

Tuesday: Case study day! I explored an intriguing GI bleed scenario with GPT—what started as one query turned into layers of clinical reasoning, like peeling back an onion. A reminder that cases are rarely as straightforward as they first appear.

Wednesday: Acute appendicitis was on the agenda, paired with a reflection from a previous placement: sonographers must report ultrasound findings of appendicitis—a detail that stuck with me. I also revisited Hirschsprung’s disease after accidentally walking in on a rectal biopsy once (awkward but educational!). Curious about the condition? Let’s chat—it’s one worth knowing.

Thursday: First day at UCLH main outpatients post-Rowlands takeover. The new payment system caught me out, which means my December payments are delayed (note to self: stay on top of these things). Frustrating but a learning curve nonetheless.

Friday: Ortho vibes! Watched an incredible NOF hemiarthroplasty performed with precision. The highlight? Learning a unique hip reduction method courtesy of Prof. Albert Chan. Plus, an F1 clarified a misconception I’d had for ages—titanium implants are paramagnetic, so patients can safely have MRIs. Who knew?!

Monday & Tuesday (Week 50): Much-needed family time—sometimes rest is the best medicine.

Wednesday: Worked a last-minute shift at Grove Hill Pharmacy. Premium rate? Yes. Payment next month? Of course. Always something too good to be true!

Thursday: Finally gave in to being unwell and started penicillin (shoutout to Pharmacy First and the lovely pharmacist at Boots). I appreciated the system even more knowing pharmacies benefit too—NHS payments well earned!

Friday: Still down with sinusitis and missed my Case-Based Discussion—frustrating but unavoidable. It’s rescheduled for the new year, and I’ll be ready.
