Week 48
Share
Monday: A mix of study and hands-on learning! Morning: nerding out over the Oxford Textbook of Medicine, decoding the fascinating world of monoclonal antibodies (did you know their suffixes reflect their origins?!). Afternoon: shadowing an IMT-2 registrar, learning the golden rule of prescribing—always record allergies! Small detail, huge impact.
Wednesday & Thursday: Spent two reflective days at UCLH’s Macmillan Cancer Centre. A humbling chat with a teenager battling osteosarcoma reminded me of the power of empathy and efficiency. Afternoon study sessions took me down a fascinating rabbit hole of ankylosing spondylitis, revisiting the groundbreaking discovery of the HLA-B27 gene.
Friday: A day in T&O heaven! Assisted in surgeries, including an ORIF procedure, and leveled up my scrubbing skills (seriously, it’s an art). Watching a registrar problem-solve under pressure was chef’s kiss inspiring. Also learned a surprising fact: drawing-up needles are not for injections (who knew?!).
